The challenge table
What we store when you sign up
- Your player name. A made-up name is fine.
- Your 4-digit PIN, stored only as a hash, never as plain text.
- Your consent to being filmed and shown publicly, with the time you gave it. We ask for it once, and again only if this policy changes in a way that matters for your consent.
- Your place in the queue and when you signed up.
- If you like: your skill level (beginner, amateur or pro, as you see yourself) and your stronger hand. You can skip both, change them while you wait in the queue, or ask us to remove them.
What we store when you play
- Your challenge matches: opponent, frames and points, breaks, fouls including a white off the table (in-off), the ball of a foul and whether you missed all balls or touched a ball with your cue or body, the colour you nominated after a red or as a free ball, safeties, snookers and whether you left yourself snookered, escapes, flukes, long pots, bank shots, plants, trick shots, shots to nothing, swerves, shots with your weaker hand (off hand) or with the rest, wobbles, lost position, lucky shots, miss cues, kicks, a white left touching a ball or stuck in the jaws, and the time of every shot as it is entered on the scoring device.
- Trash talk: when the scorer records that you talked trash during your opponent’s shot, and whether your opponent potted anyway (“trash talk resistant”).
- Statistics calculated from them, such as matches won, your streak, your highest and your average break, your pot rate and your share of the time at the table.
Why
To run the queue, to show who plays next, and to keep the challenge board and the all-time ranking. We also use the scores and shots entered in the lab to develop and test automatic scoring.
Who sees it
Your player name, your place in the queue, your results and your statistics are public: on snookerbrain.com, in the live stream and on the screens in Café Klubo and in the lab. Your skill level and stronger hand, if you give them, are shown on your player page on snookerbrain.com/live; the scoring device uses your stronger hand to note shots played with the other hand.
Video
The challenge table is filmed, and a sign in the lab says so. The live picture is shown on the screen in Café Klubo. When we switch it on, the stream also goes to YouTube and is shown on snookerbrain.com/live. When a stream ends on YouTube, its recording is set to “unlisted”: it does not show up on our channel or in searches, but anyone with the link can watch it. We may make selected recordings public. If we add another channel, we will update this page.
Recordings of matches in the lab may be kept for a short time to develop and test automatic scoring. They are not published and are deleted after 60 days at the latest.
How long
The queue is cleared at the end of every play day. Player names, results and statistics are kept without a time limit for the all-time ranking and the challenge board, until you ask us to delete them.
In your browser
When you sign up, snookerbrain.com/live keeps a small key in your browser (local storage, not a cookie). With it the page shows your place and lets you leave the queue. The key is removed when you leave the queue or your turn is over.
Your player name stays in your browser after that, so that the page can welcome you back next time and you only need your PIN. Tap “Not …?” in the sign-up form to remove it, or clear the website data in your browser. Your PIN is never kept in the browser.
Visiting snookerbrain.com
Hosting and visit statistics
The website and its database are hosted by Infomaniak Network SA in Switzerland. Like every web server, theirs record technical data of each visit, such as the IP address, the time, the page and the browser, to run the service and keep it secure.
From these records Infomaniak compiles visit statistics for us, such as the number of visits, the pages viewed and the websites visitors come from. No cookies and no tracking services are used for these statistics.
YouTube
When the live stream on the website is switched on, snookerbrain.com/live shows the YouTube player of Google. It loads when you open the page: Google then receives technical data such as your IP address and may set cookies. Google may process data in the USA; Google is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Adobe Fonts
Our font, Paralucent, comes from Adobe Fonts, a service of Adobe. To deliver it, your browser connects to Adobe, which receives technical data such as your IP address. Adobe may process data in the USA; Adobe is certified under the Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
Scoreboard
The public scoreboard at snookerbrain.com/scoreboard keeps its matches only in your browser. Nothing is sent to us, unless a device has been unlocked for the challenge table in the lab.
Your rights
- Ask which data we have about you, and get a copy.
- Have your data corrected, or your player name changed.
- Have your data deleted. Your matches then stay on the challenge board as “deleted player”, so that the results of the others remain correct.
- Withdraw your consent to being filmed, at any time for the future.
Write to info@snookerbrain.com and give your player name. We answer within 30 days, free of charge.
